Recent government data released on Wednesday indicates that illegal immigration at the southern border has significantly decreased in February, showing improvements across all metrics. The number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border has reached its lowest level in decades. For only the second time in history—and the first time outside of a pandemic—fewer than 800 unaccompanied alien children were reported. Additionally, family migration figures plummeted from over 7,000 to approximately 800. Notably, for the first time since the Trump administration, border agents did not identify any terrorism suspects attempting to cross.
“The personnel of U.S. Customs and Border Protection are diligently executing the president’s executive orders aimed at securing our borders, and as a result of this leadership, we have achieved unprecedented lows in border apprehensions,” stated Pete Flores, acting commissioner of CBP, as reported by the Washington Times.
The number of illegal immigrants apprehended by Border Patrol agents at the Mexican border fell to 8,347, marking a 71% decrease from January and a 94% reduction compared to February 2024 under President Biden. Even more remarkable was the decline in unauthorized migrants arriving at border crossings, which dropped from 32,000 in January to around 3,400 in February. This significant decrease followed former President Trump’s decision to terminate Biden-era “parole” programs that had permitted unauthorized migrants to enter if they scheduled their arrivals in advance.A construction project to upgrade the border wall, previously halted by President Biden, has resumed in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. Last week, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks announced that the Trump administration has mandated the continuation of the border wall upgrade that was canceled during Biden’s tenure along the Texas-Mexico border. The initiative will involve replacing six-foot guardrails with 18-foot bollard panels, which are intended to enhance the ability to deter and prevent illegal crossings from Mexico into Texas.
“These panels were initially scheduled for installation under the previous Trump Administration, but the Biden Administration canceled the contracts,” Banks remarked, as reported by Breitbart News. “The panels being installed today will substitute the six-foot guardrails and will enhance our capacity to impede and deny access, aligning with the President’s recent Executive Orders aimed at achieving full operational control of the Southern border.”
