Michelle Obama Speaks up About ‘Rumors’ Following Divorce Speculations – Here’s What She Said
The former first lady talked candidly about managing rumors, maintaining her optimism, and why she doesn’t read online comments at all during a live recording of her new podcast at SXSW.
Although Michelle Obama admitted that it has never been easy to live with “rumors” about her family, she and former President Barack Obama discussed how they have managed to put the negative behind them.

At the March 13 SXSW live taping of her new podcast, “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson,” the former first lady talked about how she maintains her optimism during trying times. She talked about how she and her older brother Craig Robinson have dealt with rumors and false information throughout the years.
“People always ask me and Barack, how did we stay hopeful in, not just the eight years that we were in the White House, but beyond?” Michelle stated. “Because, let me tell you, there was a lot of negative energy flipping our way — a lot of rumors, a lot of gossip.”
She underlined that the secret to keeping her calm has been to ignore rumors on social media. “You cannot live through social media,” she clarified. “I don’t think I have ever once looked at a comment section, period.”
Michelle urged those listening to distance themselves from negativity, concentrate on genuine dialogue, and resist the temptation to fall victim to false information on the internet.

She emphasized the value of diversifying one’s knowledge sources and maintaining a grounded perspective in real life as opposed to online discussion.
The conversation follows a surge of internet conjecture over the Obamas’ union after Barack attended Donald Trump’s inauguration by himself.
Social media users posted comments, with some guessing that the couple was on the verge of divorce and that the president might be seeking a new relationship.
Others, however, expressed their support for Michelle, while others saw the irony in a potential split and made their distaste for the former first lady apparent.
On Valentine’s Day, Barack paid homage to his wife on X, presenting a different image of their relationship in spite of the circulating rumors.
“What a lovely pair they are! One internet user wrote, “They’re both intelligent, courteous, devoted, and sincere individuals.” Another said, “Thank you both Obamas for 8 scandal-free years and a lifetime of relationship goals.” In the words of a third, “This picture must be a blow to people who thought you were divorcing.”
After the internet rage over the couple’s marriage, Michelle came back into the public front and sparked new conversations, but this time they focused on her looks.

The former First Lady’s first public appearance in almost two months garnered media attention. The 61-year-old attended an event in Austin, Texas, wearing a sophisticated orange two-piece attire. She maintained a classy yet understated appearance by wearing little makeup and wearing her hair in tidy braids.
Online debates were immediately triggered by her comeback to the spotlight. Some social media users speculated about her weight loss while concentrating on her beauty.
“I believe she shed several pounds. She may have taken Ozampic [sic]. She appears to be a skeleton, a reviewer said. One more person said, “Very thin.” Another person commented, “Ozempic doesn’t look good on her.”
Online discussion was nevertheless sparked by her appearance. One person questioned, “Why people wait to get past 60 and lose so much weight?” A second person bluntly remarked, “Hit that Ozempic.” Her admirers commended her flair and grace in spite of the criticism.

“She looks amazing,” a fan commented here. Others were impressed by her self-assurance, which changed the topic from conjecture to admiration.
The Austin event was for the aforementioned podcast, which Michelle and her brother co-founded and which aims to address the most difficult problems in life. Michelle shared her announcement on Instagram a few days prior to her public debut.
She recognized the intricacies of the modern world in her essay, ranging from relationships and elderly parents to job and family. She and Craig Robinson were motivated by this to start “The Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson Podcast.”
“Now, Craig is one of the people I turn to whenever I have anything on my mind,” she wrote in a letter. “He always has the insights, the
