Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD foundation has donated $2.5 million to help people affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. On Sunday (Jan. 12), the foundation’s official Instagram account announced the donation and explained how it would help.

“Los Angeles, we stand with you,” the post said. “BeyGOOD is creating the LA Fire Relief Fund with $2.5 million. This money will help families in the Altadena and Pasadena areas who lost their homes. It will also support churches and community centers that are helping people with urgent needs caused by the wildfires.”

BeyGOOD started in 2013. Its goal is to help people and work with organizations that support marginalized communities. The foundation aims to make a difference by inspiring everyone to “BeyGOOD.”

Over the years, BeyGOOD has supported many causes. In 2015, it helped Haiti recover after devastating earthquakes. In 2016, it gave $82,000 to help address the Flint Water Crisis. The foundation has continued its efforts for over a decade.

The Los Angeles wildfires began on Tuesday (Jan. 7) as a brush fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. By 10:30 AM, the fire had spread rapidly. NBC reported that nearly 180,000 people were told to evacuate their homes due to the Eaton, Hurst, and Lidia fires. As of Sunday (Jan. 12), 24 people have died, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Many celebrities and companies have also donated to help wildfire victims. Disney gave $15 million, while Fox Corp. and Paramount each gave $1 million to the American Red Cross. Actress Halle Berry shared on social media that she was donating her entire closet to +COOP, a California store helping wildfire victims.

“I’m packing up my whole closet and bringing it to COOP,” Berry said on Instagram. “If you live in Southern California, I encourage you to do the same. This is something we can all do today to help families who need basic supplies right now!”
