Riddles engage our brains in creative problem-solving by encouraging us to think outside the box, thus improving our critical thinking abilities.
The truth is, though, that while some individuals enjoy them, others dislike them. The reason for this is that riddles, especially more difficult ones, can be unpleasant because the solution is difficult to locate or find immediately. At the same time, they frequently involve unusual reasoning, which some of us find perplexing.
One particular riddle that left many scratching their head is the one with a woman in a boat.
It’s brief, ambiguous, and doesn’t give much information.
Essentially, it’s a fairly simple brain teaser that goes like this: “There is a woman in a boat, on a lake, wearing a coat. If you want to know her name, it’s in the riddle I just wrote. What’s her name?“
