Coronation Street’s December Drama: Gail’s Major News, Shona’s Secret, Mystery Crash & The Baby Update
As Coronation Street enters a dramatic December, one actor’s deep family connection to the show might surprise fans. Sam Aston, who portrays Chesney Brown, has been a part of the cobbles since 2003. But did you know that his siblings also have ties to the beloved ITV soap?
Sam, now 31, made his debut on the Street as the cheeky son of Fiz Brown and her boyfriend Kirk, quickly forming close bonds with several key characters. His character Chesney became a fan favorite, especially with his endearing relationship with his stepdad Les and his life alongside Gemma and their five children. However, Chesney’s recent storylines have explored the harsh realities of adulthood, including financial struggles and the emotional toll of losing his stepdad Les. This week, viewers saw Chesney mask his grief before quietly breaking down, showcasing the raw vulnerability of a character many have watched grow over the years.
Before landing on Coronation Street, Sam had a few notable appearances, including a memorable role in a Whetton’s Bread advert and small parts in shows like The Bill and Where the Heart Is. Next year, Sam will showcase his dancing skills in the upcoming series of Dancing on Ice, partnered with professional skater Molly Lanigan.
But Sam isn’t the only member of his family to have appeared on Coronation Street. His sister, Emily Aston, appeared on the show years before he did. Emily’s character, Becky Palmer, made her first appearance in 1996 as the daughter of Dez Bar’s girlfriend, CLA. Becky’s storyline involved navigating family tensions, including her strained relationship with her mom’s new partner. As the story progressed, Becky and CLA faced complications surrounding CLA’s pension, leading to the women moving into number six for a while before coming clean about their situation.
Becky found an unexpected friendship with Mavis Wilton, and a young schoolgirl crush on butcher Ashley Peacock. Emily’s character remained a part of the soap until 1997, leaving after only 51 episodes. Her exit came amid family drama when CLA found out Dez was attempting to seduce Samantha Fails, which complicated their relationship even further.
As if that weren’t enough, in 2000, Sam and Emily’s sibling, Joseph, also joined the show as Tommy Duck, the grandson of legendary characters Jack and Vera Duckworth. The Aston family’s connection to the show goes deeper than many realize, and with such a rich history, it’s no wonder that Coronation Street continues to hold a special place in their hearts.
Stay tuned this December as Coronation Street promises more drama, emotional twists, and family secrets revealed.
