Robert F Kennedy’s Widow, Ethel, Hospitalized

The widow of US Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Ethel Kennedy, is receiving medical care following a recent health issue.

Joseph Kennedy III shared on X that human rights advocate, Ethel Kennedy, is currently hospitalized but resting comfortably, with her family by her side.

Joseph divulged that his grandmother had enjoyed a wonderful summer and transition into fall, but her health condition unexpectedly changed. “Unfortunately on Thursday morning she suffered a stroke in her sleep. She was brought to an area hospital where she is now receiving treatment,” he said.

The widow of Robert F. Kennedy, known for her strength and fulfilling life, is receiving attentive care, with her family by her side for support. Ethel is close to her loved ones, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces, whom she enjoys spending time with.

According to Joseph, during the summer, “she was able to get out on the water, visit the pier, and enjoy many lunches and dinner with family.” Those moments were a treasured gift, benefiting everyone involved, including Ethel.

Sadly, Ethel has now been hospitalized, but the former US representative encouraged everyone to keep her in their thoughts and prayers. Joseph also requested that the family’s privacy be respected during this time.

An advocate for social issues, Ethel turned 96 on April 11, 2024. In a heartwarming photo on X, Joseph showed the world how she enjoyed her special day surrounded by her big family. He captioned the post, “Happy 96th to the World’s most amazing Gramma!! 🎂.”

Her daughter, Kerry Kennedy, also celebrated the matriarch’s birthday, highlighting some of her greatest achievements. She penned on Instagram, “My mother founded @rfkhumanrights in the fall of 1969 to carry forth my father’s legacy. For more than half a century, my mom has been a champion for justice, standing with human rights defenders around the globe.”

Kerry, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, stated that Ethel’s bravery and dedication to human rights inspire the team daily. The non-profit organization works to ensure government accountability and advocates for human rights education and youth organizing.

The organization also promotes dignity and equality in workplaces and the investment sector while supporting grassroots changemakers. In recognition of Ethel’s achievements, Kerry expressed her admiration, saying, “Happy birthday to the greatest mom I could ever imagine! 🎂❤️.”

Ethel intensified her activism after her husband was assassinated in June 1968, shortly after he announced his presidential candidacy.

Before this tragedy, she had already gained public recognition for her support of John F. Kennedy’s campaign and later Robert’s successful run for a U.S. Senate seat representing New York.

In the late 1970s, fueled by a renewed dedication to public service, Ethel devoted much of her time and energy to various social causes, particularly the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Project.

Ethel, who gave birth to her and Robert’s 11th child, Rory, six months after his death, also founded the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Centre. The center carries on Robert’s legacy through initiatives like the Human Rights Awards and Journalism Awards.

Additionally, she co-chairs the Coalition of Gun Control and actively participates in various other human rights organizations.

Throughout the years, Ethel has faced significant losses. In 1984, she lost her son David to an accidental drug overdose, and in 1997, her son Michael passed away in a skiing accident.

Ethel and Robert’s surviving kids include Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, Joseph Patrick Kennedy II, Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., Courtney Kennedy Hill, Mary Kerry Kennedy, Christopher George Kennedy, Matthew Maxwell Taylor Kennedy, Douglas Harriman Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy Bailey.

As she faces health challenges, her children stand by her side, united in their love and support while praying for her recovery and good health.
