Malia Obama, who is 25 years old, is starting her Hollywood career. She decided to use a different name, Malia Ann, instead of Malia Obama. She grew up in public because her dad was the former president, Barack Obama.
She just showed her first movie, “The Heart,” at the Sundance Film Festival. In a video, she explained that she’s now going by Malia Ann, dropping her last name. Her middle name, Ann, honors her grandma who passed away from cancer.
Her movie is about a man who is sad after his mom dies, and she leaves him a strange request in her will. Malia described the film as a story about lost things, lonely people, forgiveness, and feeling sorry.
Before this, Malia worked on a show called “Swarm” for Amazon Prime. She went to Harvard, and she’s a good writer and artist, according to the creators of “Swarm.” They think she’s very serious about her work, not just because she’s the former president’s daughter.
Some other famous people changed their names too, like Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie. Malia looked comfortable and natural at her movie debut, wearing minimal makeup and leaving her curly hair down with small braids in it.
